NGC 1805 gathers into a brilliant concentration of stars against the darkness of Dorado. Seen here by the Hubble Space Telescope, the globular cluster lies slightly towards the lower right of the frame, its compact brightness surrounded by a much quieter field. Cool blue points dominate, interspersed with vivid orange stars whose warmth gives the cluster an unusually rich visual depth.

The composition is defined by the contrast between abundance and emptiness. Within the cluster, stars overlap in a dense, finely textured glow; beyond it, individual points become progressively more isolated. That transition makes NGC 1805 appear almost three-dimensional—not as a flat scattering of light, but as a deep assembly in which different intensities seem to occupy different visual planes.

A closer look

Near the heart of the cluster, the brightest stars carry soft halos, while innumerable smaller blue points fill the spaces between them. Several orange stars punctuate the lower-right region, standing apart from the cooler surrounding light without overwhelming it. Along the lower edge, closely set blue stars form another compact pocket of brightness, extending the cluster beyond its most immediately conspicuous centre.

The darker reaches of the frame are not entirely empty. Faint blue points continue into the upper field, and the left-hand side contains a subtler, more closely packed luminous area. At large scale, these peripheral stars become an essential part of the image: they trace the gradual passage from the crowded cluster to the sparse black surroundings. Even the apparent voids vary gently in tone, preserving fine distinctions that might disappear in a smaller reproduction.

Choosing the right size and finish

Fine art can feel intimate at smaller sizes and more architectural at larger ones. Use the room preview, model image and size guide to judge the scale of the piece in your space.

For exact dimensions, specialist framing or a larger project, ask our workshop for advice.

The model in the listing images is holding the 16x16in (40x40cm) version of this art print.

Where personalisation is available, you can add a short title or dedication, or one considered visual detail. See examples of personalised artwork.

Choose Original for colour that remains faithful to the source artwork, or Aged for a warmer antique character. See examples of our Aged artwork.

Every piece is printed to museum-grade archival standards using fade-resistant pigment inks on acid-free matte paper. Choose an art print, framed art print or canvas using the finish options above.

Framed art prints use crystal-clear optical acrylic for excellent clarity, reduced reflections and safer delivery. They arrive professionally framed and ready to hang.

Selected artworks can be produced at statement sizes up to 3 metres (10ft). Custom sizing and specialist framing are also available; contact our workshop if the exact option you need is not listed.
