NGC 2525 unfurls across this Hubble view as a barred spiral galaxy, its luminous centre surrounded by broad, loosely curving arms. Blue-white regions gather along the spiral structure, while smaller red and orange patches punctuate the cooler light. Against the surrounding blackness, the galaxy appears both intricate and remarkably clear: a bright system whose finer structures gradually dissolve into darkness.

The centre provides the visual anchor. Its concentrated glow is edged by warmer threads and mottled areas, from which the arms sweep outwards in irregular arcs. These are not smooth bands of light; they are broken into knots, filaments and softly luminous stretches, giving the galaxy a richly textured appearance. The asymmetric arrangement keeps the eye moving between the brilliant core and the quieter outer reaches.

Released in 2020, the image was made with the Hubble Space Telescope. NGC 2525 lies in the constellation Puppis and is classified as both a spiral and barred galaxy—the latter referring to the bar-like central structure from which its spiral arms extend.

A closer look

Near the core, warm orange-red detail is embedded within an intense white glow. Beyond it, the dominant colour shifts towards blue: pale highlights trace portions of the arms, interspersed with darker channels and diffuse grey regions. Along the outer edges, narrow luminous strands fade rather than end abruptly, making the boundary between the galaxy and the black field appear delicately porous.

The surrounding space is scattered with fine points of light. A faint grouping is visible towards the upper left, while the right side holds a softer, more diffuse glow. Along the lower edge, subdued red patches add small accents of warmth. At large scale, these peripheral details become an important counterpoint to the central brilliance, revealing how much of the composition lies in its quieter passages.

Choosing the right size and finish

Fine art can feel intimate at smaller sizes and more architectural at larger ones. Use the room preview, model image and size guide to judge the scale of the piece in your space.

For exact dimensions, specialist framing or a larger project, ask our workshop for advice.

The model in the listing images is holding the 16x16in (40x40cm) version of this art print.

Where personalisation is available, you can add a short title or dedication, or one considered visual detail. See examples of personalised artwork.

Choose Original for colour that remains faithful to the source artwork, or Aged for a warmer antique character. See examples of our Aged artwork.

Every piece is printed to museum-grade archival standards using fade-resistant pigment inks on acid-free matte paper. Choose an art print, framed art print or canvas using the finish options above.

Framed art prints use crystal-clear optical acrylic for excellent clarity, reduced reflections and safer delivery. They arrive professionally framed and ready to hang.

Selected artworks can be produced at statement sizes up to 3 metres (10ft). Custom sizing and specialist framing are also available; contact our workshop if the exact option you need is not listed.
